Who we are

Best Beer (best-beer.com) is an independent guide to beer styles with a community for beer lovers. In this policy, "we" and "us" mean Best Beer. If you have a question about your data, write to us at info@best-beer.com.

What we collect

When you just read the site

You can read every guide without an account. Our web host and caching system keep standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and the pages requested) to keep the site secure and working. These logs are kept for a short time and are not used to identify you.

When you create an account

To join, we ask for your first and last name, email address, a password, your country and your year of birth. We use your country and year of birth only to confirm you are of legal drinking age. Your password is stored encrypted and we cannot see it. We send you one email to verify your address. If you tick the newsletter box we will also send you occasional updates, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

When you post in the community

Forum posts, check-ins and reviews are public. They show your display name (your first name and the first letter of your last name) and the date. Please do not post personal information you do not want others to see.

Cookies and storage on your device

We use a small number of cookies and browser storage items:

• Essential: keeping you logged in, remembering your language, remembering your age confirmation for 30 days, and remembering your cookie choice. The site cannot work properly without these.
• Accessibility settings: if you change text size or contrast with the accessibility button, your choice is saved in your browser.
• Analytics and advertising: only with your permission. If you choose "Essential only", these stay switched off.

You can change your choice at any time with the "Cookie settings" link at the bottom of every page.

How we use your information

• To run your account and let you post in the community.
• To confirm that members are of legal drinking age.
• To send the verification email and, only if you asked for it, our newsletter.
• To keep the site secure and prevent spam and abuse.

We do not sell your personal information.

Who we share it with

We share data only with the services that run the site for us, such as our web hosting provider and email delivery service, and only as far as they need it to provide that service. We may also disclose information if the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep your account information while your account is open. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete your personal details; public posts may remain without your name, or you can ask us to remove them.

Your rights

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, correct it, download a copy or have it deleted. Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, the UK, Israel or California), you may have further rights under local law. To make a request, write to info@best-beer.com.

Age

Best Beer is for adults of legal drinking age only: 21 or older in the United States and 18 or older in most other countries. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under that age.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will be announced on the site.
